Theresa, a teenager at an all-girls prep school, is struggling with her body image. What's worse is that she has yet to be asked to homecoming, while her best friend, Janie, already has a date. While researching tapeworms for her pre-lab report for biology class, Theresa comes across a website advertising "The Tapeworm Diet" and gets an idea. The next day during the biology lab dissection she convinces Janie to cover for her as she steals the live tapeworm specimen from their class. After learning of Theresa's intentions to eat it to lose weight, Janie, also struggling with her body image, insists they play "rock, paper scissors" to determine who gets the worm; Janie wins. A few day later Janie claims to have consumed the tapeworm, but Theresa is doubtful and eventually finds the uneaten worm in Janie's bag during a sleepover. Theresa confronts her best friend and their relationship is put to the ultimate test.
